Snow Day 2022

Here’s a quick story:

The birds ate all the bird seed. Pounds and pounds of it, leaving the feeder empty right as a historic snowstorm rolled in.

This was not a disaster. No birds were going to starve. There are other houses with bird feeders, including our next-door neighbor’s, which was fully stocked.

But, my Norwegian boyfriend worried, if the birds ate from HER feeder, they would come to love her best.

This was how an otherwise (mostly) sane man decided to cross the city during a mini blizzard for the purpose of buying birdseed.

(One wonders why the bird store was even open! The grocery store wasn’t!)

Fortunately, he did not crash our car. He returned singing the praises of 4-wheel drive, restocked the birdies, and then finally ate breakfast himself.

#priorities

Shortly thereafter, a motorist lacking 4-wheel drive became stranded in front of our house. He was rescued by a very smug Norwegian with a shovel.

That, apparently, is the problem with Norwegians. Snow is just a fact of life to them. My city is having its second snow day in three decades. Snow is normal around here; it takes a lot to shut things down. Meanwhile, Boyfriend’s mom asked if it was really that serious or if my account was overdramatic, and he assured her that we’re experiencing “A medium amount of snow.”

Then he went outside and danced in it. He’s taken it upon himself to “keep the walks shoveled” (an absolute impossibility). I think it’s just an excuse to enjoy the weather.

He is like if Elsa from Frozen was six feet tall and hairy. Perhaps that would’ve been honesty in character design. If my boyfriend ever had a musical number in real life, it would’ve been this morning, when he stood fifteen inches deep in snow and grinned while a blizzard blew around him.

It’s sort of disgusting that he’s this happy.

He also went out almost naked to make snow angels, but I’m not posting a photo of that here!

Have this picture instead. It’s wholesome. Has a Christmas wreath and everything. Yes I know it’s February.
